Once:

Olivia lived with her mother, her sister Mia and her alcoholic, violent father in Boston. Then her mother died, and everything went to shit. Her father took a turn to the worse. He was beating his daughters for little reason and he was drinking most of his meager paycheck. Olivia, at 14 at the time, had to take care of the household and care for 10-years-old Mia. One fateful day in May when returning from school, Mia saw a man dropping his wallet; on a whim, she grabbed it and then run towards a dark alley. And found herself in the Hedge after accidentally opening a hedgegate by indulgence. She was quickly snatched by Privateers that promised to help her in the bizarre landscape only to sell her to the Lady of the Crystal Springs (Gentry) and her Durance started.
Cinder was remade to a beautiful cinder that every night was set on fire and displayed in a big lamp for the Lady's guests
to gawk at, including accessing all her memories. The Lady of the Crystal Springs, through whispered compliments or during cruel punishment was accessing and changing her memories to 'keep the audience interested'. Breaking the myriad rules that made little sense to a normal mind always brought great punishment from the Keeper, despite Cinder being the favorite of the Lady's toys - or so the Lady was telling Cinder.
It was only the memories of leaving her poor sister locked with that man that helped Cinder eventually develop the courage to run away when her goblin lover broke the lamp. They were supposed to escape together, but Cinder couldn't afford to wait for her; she ran away with another changeling that knew which of her memories were true and let Leafy Media back. The screams of her former lover haunted Cinder's dreams for months. With the help of an ally she didn't really trust she successfully crossed the hedge...

...And found four years have passed.
Leaning on her changeling ally and a reluctant to trust Freehold that found them, Cinder eventually made her way home only to find that Mia was dead and... something... was living her life. Griefstriken, angry and at a loss, she watched her Fetch from afar, aware of the dangers but unable to stay away. Whether that man pushed the Fetch to prostitution or that thing made the choice in her desperation to support Mia as she was wasting away from leukemia, Cinder didn't find out. The Fetch was suffering a different Durance, under a different, mortal, Keeper.
Cinder didn't kill her Fetch. She killed her father.
It was quick and more painless than the bastard deserved. But it was bloody. Before setting the crime-scene on fire, Cinder hid all the money she got (and whatever money she found on her father) to the place she and Mia used to hide their precious toys so that their father wouldn't break them as punishment or sold them to buy another bottle of whiskey.
For their part, the Freehold was not impressed that a newly arrived changeling had gone for murder and arson without taking out her Fetch. They have never been to welcoming and the event put more distance between Cinder and the Freehold. But what sent Cinder on her path away from Boston happened a few weeks later: She was ambushed by a trio of petty thugs that thought it would be smart to jump on her from the shadows and grab her from behind. Instinctual fear took over as she felt arms pulling her into the shadows and fires burned high as she used clearly supernatural powers to defend herself. One of the thugs had a cousin that was running with a group of mortal "witch-hunters", the Freehold officials told her, a hunter that was now snooping around for creatures that burst into flames. Cinder was ordered to leave.

Now:
For the greater part of 2022, Cinder wandered around the USA, doing part-time jobs here and there. At first, she was concerned about the employment prospects of a woman with few skills, but in the tail end of a Pandemic she didn't recall, she found out that the food service was in need of employees. And while few employers would agree to hire help that drifted in town a few days ago and would leave again in a month, the beauty Cinder has acquired in Arcadia was showing through her Mask now. Cantinas with her in tight jeans were seeing an increase in sales and if an employer, fellow employee or customer was getting out of hand, her steely gaze would set them back.
Cinder often found the Hedge a place she was drawn to. The danger in every step in the place that is neither Arcadia nor the mortal world, a place filled with wonder, cruelty, beauty and betrayal was providing a well-needed distraction as her mind was trying to process all that has happened to her and was assisting her understand what she was now. It was easier to navigate the loss of ... everything in a way no mortal can understand when she could escape in the hedge, even if she returned bleeding from such forays.

While selling her memories of a hook-up with an exotic dancer at a goblin market outside Lexington for a few goblin fruit, Cinder came upon information that intrigued her. The fate-spinners that directed her towards New Orleans armed her with three pieces of knowledge, hidden in her mind until the time would be right and claimed that would be enough to make a home for herself. Without anything better in the horizon, Cinder informed her ally that she was heading to the City that Care Forgot.
Once there, Cinder quickly established herself as a self-defense instructor for women that didn't hesitate to put the angriest of her charges in illegal underground fights, filming the fights and selling them on the dark-web in bulk, sharing the profits with them (but keeping the lion's share).
On the Hedge-side, Cinder stroke an uneasy alliance with a hobgoblin pirate crew at the end of a trod, something that quickly earned her a place in the Freehold as the Sentry of the Sun Arc. She was bringing the pirates candy and other things they required from the Iron Side and they taught her some of their tricks. They were supposed to trod deep inland and help her clean a big, big hallow from a nasty spider that was eating the local hobgoblins inhabiting it but they never showed up. She was angry enough for them cheating her out of glamour and candy that she managed to drive out the spider and the spiderlings herself.
Not more than a couple of weeks later, Cinder found and rescued Lucia, a woman so interested in the occult that she managed to stumble in the hedge - and would die if Cinder hadn't showed up to save her.

At that point, Cinder felt the knowledge she has bought to establish herself in New Orleans was used up. She is not sure whether that knowledge was ever there or it was all a hoax by the Fate-Spinners, but she finds herself in a much better position in New Orleans regardless. Perhaps the Wyrd has been more honest than the Goblins have been.
